A walk down memory lane to 1904

For nearly a century Greenmount at Coolangatta has welcomed hundreds of happy holiday makers. Times have changed but Greenmount is still as naturally beautiful today as it was a hundred years ago.

Greenmount Beach Resorts' attention to detail, service and the superb location make the Resort the preferred vacation destination year after year.

Patrick Fagan arrived at Coolangatta on the first train in 1903. In 1904 he built the first section of what was to become Greenmount Guest House which included a bathing house at the foot of the hill. Extensive additions were made in 1908 and Patrick Fagan called the building Greenmount after his birth place in Ireland.

Guests became accustomed to referring to a section of the nearby beach as Greenmount Beach, a name by which it is generally known.

Erecting of Greenmount Beach House transformed Coolangatta into a thriving holiday destination. During the 40's 50's and 60's Greenmount became the center of beach entertainment with the famous Hokey Pokey and inter-hotel beach competitions. These activities captured the imagination of holiday makers throughout Australia, with many guests returning annually.

In 1978 the Guest House was demolished and replaced by the new Greenmount Beach Resort.

Present day Greenmount Beach Resort finds itself returning more and more to the original concept of the Greenmount Beach House and the activities once offered.
